Fresh Start Monday #025: Deepen the learning, forward the action

One competency of the Co-Active coaching model that's been a recent focus is called deepen the learning, forward the action.

All of us naturally fall on one side of this equation. I see clients that love to learn, whether that's through books, podcasts, or taking courses. And clients who excel at getting stuff done one to-do list at a time.

Coaching is about getting results and taking action, but there's an exploration that needs to uncover what the action is.

In each coaching session, we spend at least 80% of the time deepening the learning. It's about having a deeper understanding and awareness of themselves.

Forwarding the action is about taking an action that leads to a new experience and creates a new reality.

It's a recurring cycle of depth and motion.

I'm learning that clients want and ask more for what they're already good at. After all, it's what's gotten them here. But it's my job as a coach to help them access the other side that gives balance to the equation.

To coach myself a bit, I can research, learn, and dive deep into whatever topic piques my curiosity. But I stop at putting it into the world.

Yesterday, I added a new phone wallpaper on my lock screen. It says:

Learning hasn't occurred until action has taken place.

Applying it to your life

Do you like to learn or to take action? What's your first instinct?

What would it look like to lean into your untapped potential on the other side?
