Fresh Start Monday #83: 99% is a bitch. 100% is a breeze.
Successful people adhere to the “no exceptions rule” when it comes to their daily disciplines. Once you make a 100% commitment to something, there are no exceptions. It’s a done deal. Nonnegotiable. Case closed! Over and out. - Jack Canfield
99% is a bitch. 100% is a breeze.
This line comes from Success Principles by Jack Canfield and has been on my mind recently.
99% means:
You're always deciding whether or not to do something.
You might do it depending on how you feel today.
You still have that nagging 1% in the back of your mind, that you'll let talk and influence you sometimes.
99% effort is exhausting. It weighs on you more than the actual task.
99% is a constant battle against what your mind is trying to trick you into doing (the easy) and what you deeply desire to be doing (the hard).
I think of fast food. I loved fast food growing up especially Mcdonalds. 99% committed to eating healthy means that every time I drive past a Mcdonalds I have to decide whether or not to stop and order something.
100% means that I don't consider it. The decision has already been made weeks, months, or even years earlier.
100% is a full commitment to do something. A total commitment at the beginning that requires one firm decision instead of deciding each day if you're going to do it or not.
Meditation has been one of the toughest habits for me to consistently do. It's hard as hell to sit quietly and observe your thoughts.
However, I've noticed that whenever I do it consistently, I'm more present, a better listener, and more focused.
I've meditated every day since January 1st. My longest streak ever. I want to share techniques and tips because I have changed some things, but when it comes down to it, I committed 100% to it. No matter what time I wake up, how I feel, or how busy my day is.
The caveat is that you can't be 100% committed to ten different things. Pick one thing.

What’s one thing in your life that you’re partially committed to but know you should be 100% committed to?
Or maybe it's a 100% commitment to stop doing something?
What would 100% allow you to do?
